WELCOME
The purpose of the Annie L. Awbrey Public Library is to provide quality library service to all citizens of Roanoke and Randolph County through the development of the library’s collection, public relations effective staffing and cooperation with the Cheaha Regional Library.

HISTORY
The library began in 1934 by the Roanoke Literacy Club. Each member had to bring two books apiece for club dues. The books were housed in a corner in Martin's Clothing Store downtown. Later on the books were moved into a corner in the front of the high school gymnasium.  In 1972 the library moved into its current residence. In 1992 the building was remodeled, adding a brand new meeting room and wall-to-wall windows.

​SERVICES
  • Our collection consists of about 20,000 books, encyclopedias, and reference books. We subscribe to 35 magazines and at least two newspapers. We carry books for all ages and interests, including a genealogy section, civil war and Alabama books as well as housing and the Randolph County Law Library.
  • We have a Interlibrary Loan program for our patrons. If a book does not appear on our shelves, we can borrow it, if notified within a reasonable time.
  • Our meeting room is available for public use. Scheduling has to be arranged ahead of time, and the meeting must be beneficial to business or civic groups. Media access is also available.
  • Internet access (10 computers) to the library through the Roanoke Telephone Company. Patrons can use the web by signing in and following the rules as posted near the computers. Children must have an adult accompanying them.
  • Programs at the library include a Friday story time for preschoolers at 10:00a.m.
  • A Summer Reading Program that runs through the month of June. Story time will be on Other programs featuring authors or historical events are scheduled as opportunities arise. We encourage patrons to watch for publicity concerning these events since the public is invited to attend.

POLICIES
To apply for a Library Card and become a patron you will need, a picture I.D. Also  proof of residence in Randolph County is necessary for the librarian to issue a card. An application card must be filled out and placed on file.
  • Children under 16 must be accompanied by a legal guardian to obtain a card.
  • The first card issued is a free service of the library: however, a replacement card cost
  • $3.00
  • Patrons must have their own card to check out their books.
  • Books may be borrowed for a two week period and may be rechecked if there is no waiting list.
  • First check out is limited to two books.
  • No food or drinks allowed in the library.
  • Overdue fines are $.10 per day/per book.
  • The patron is responsible for all materials checked out on their card
