What are eAudiobooks?

 

eAudiobooks are digital versions of audiobooks that are available through the Internet. eAudiobooks can be played on any desktop or portable computer that supports Windows Media Player version 9.0 and above.  You can also transfer your favorite titles to a wide range of portable devices such as MP3 players, media centers, Pocket PCs and even select smartphone devices.

Requirements

 

In order to use eAudiobooks you must have:

    1.  A Free Account (see "Create an Account")

    2.  A PC computer that runs Windows 2000 or XP for downloading, and which has Windows Media Player 9 or 10

 

eAudiobooks may be played on your PC computer or transferred to a portable device.

 

 

 

Criterion for Portable Devices

 

The most common device used to listen to eAudiobooks is an MP3 player (sorry iPods not supported).  Functions important in portable devices for downloadable eAudiobooks include:

 

 

 

Listen on the Go

 

You will need an FM transmitter to listen to your MP3 player through your car stereo.  These can usually be purchased at any place that sells MP3 players.

 

 

  Log in anywhere, anytime

 

After establishing an eAudiobooks account through the library, you can log into the library’s eAudiobook collection from any computer with Internet access – home, school or work.

 

  1. Enter your username and password on: www.netlibrary.org
  2. Click on the Log in button.
  3. You now have access to all the eAudiobooks available in the library’s collection.

 

 

 

Search

Go to www.netlibrary.org

 

Basic Search lets you quickly find eAudiobooks to listen to using the Keyword, Title or Author fields. You can find Basic Search on your NetLibrary home page and on the right side of every page (except the Advanced Search page).

 

  1. Enter a search term in the Basic Search field.
  2. Select Keyword, Title, or Author.
  3. Click Search.
  4. Search results will display all eAudiobooks in the library’s collection that matches your search criteria.

 

Advanced Search offers multiple fields and Boolean operators.

 

  1. Click on the Advanced Search link located in the Basic Search box.
  2. Use the drop-down menu to select search parameters (Title, Author, Subject, Keyword, ISBN)
  3. Enter search term(s).
  4. Click Search

 

 

 

Checkout

Download and transfer made easy

 

The default checkout period for an eAudiobook is three weeks. You may check out a maximum of 10 eAudiobook titles at one time.

  1. From search results, click on the Download this eAudiobook link.
  2. Select a download option: CD or radio for dial-up; choose CD if you have high-speed access or if you plan to transfer to a portable device.
  3. Selecting Open will download the title and launch your media player. Click the Play button to listen. Selecting Save lets you download the file to a directory. Once the download is complete, you can open the eAudiobook directly from your media player or use Windows Explorer.

 

Transfer your eAudiobook

 

Before transferring an eAudiobook to a portable device, you must open it at least once on your computer using Windows Media Player. Please refer to your media player’s help section for complete details on transferring the title to your portable media player.

 

Renew

Any time during the checkout period you can renew your checkout for an additional 21 days by logging in, clicking on the My Checked Out Items link, then clicking on the Download this Audio link for the title to renew, then click on Renew.

  1. Do I need any software on my computer to listen to eAudiobooks?  Audiobooks can be downloaded or played on any personal computer or portable listening device that supports Microsoft Windows Media Player v9 and above, Musicmatch Jukebox v8.2 and above, or Nullsoft Winamp v5 and more.
  2. Can I play audiobooks on portable listening devices? Yes, Audiobooks are compatible with a wide range of portable devices that support secure WMA format. Some of the tested players include:

  3. How many audiobooks can I check out at one time? 10 audiobooks
  4. Do I need to return audiobooks when the checkout period expires? No. The license for downloaded audiobooks automatically expries after 21 days. You will not be able to play the audiobook, even though the file remains on your personal computer and portable listening device. You need to manually delete the file from your personal computer and portable listening device.
  5. How long does it take to download an eAudiobook? Download time depends on the size of the audiobook file and spped of your Internet connection.
  6. How do I listen to an uadiobook in the car? You will need a radio transmitter or other device adapter that works with your portable listening device and car stereo.
  7. Can I download and play audiobooks on a Mac? No, at this time e-Audiobooks are not supported by Mac software.
  8. Can I download and play an audiobook on an iPod? No. eAudiobooks cannot be played on iPods. iPods use the .aac file format and the .aac file format does not support the Digital Rights Management protection required.
